Masoud Barzani Iraqi Kurdish leader thanks Turkey

The letter has been seen as an attempt to ease the tense relations between the Northern Iraqi Kurdish groups and Ankara. Turkey had objected to comments by Barzani and other Kurdish leaders that they hoped to declare an independent Kurdish state in the region and that Turkey had no right to intervene in Northern Iraq.
Barzani also gave a reassurance that there would be no discrimination against any group in new democratic Iraq.
Meanwhile, the US has reached agreement on the disarming of militants of the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the other Kurdish group in the region, currently occupying the oil rich city of Mosul.
