Legality of EU action is questionable

Denktas said, ”this is intention. This is a comment saying ‘here Cyprus enters to the EU, but Turks made a mistake in not accessing to the EU.” Denktas said, ”Cyprus does not enter. Cyprus can not make such an application according to 1960 agreement. This application is not legal. 1960 agreement was based on Turkish-Greek balance. Cyprus can not enter any organization which Turkey and Greece are not members of. They disregarded this legal situation and accepted application of Greek Cypriot administration which they called as Cyprus.”

Denktas said, ”the North does not become a member of the EU. The North can only become a member when they accept that Turkish Cypriots are people who are equal with the Greek Cypriots and when they recognize the sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots.”

Denktas said, ”there is an incomplete Cyprus question. Those who turned Cyprus question a problem of accessing to the EU were mistaken and misled. An atmosphere has been created as if Cyprus question would be solved by entering the EU, and as if Turkish Cypriots are ready to access the EU after the Greek Cypriot side. TRNC is our work of art. Freedom and sovereignty of Turkish Cypriot people is in question. If we can be calm, we can reach the desired target together with Turkey.”

Commenting on the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis to all the leaders of political parties in TRNC to the visit which he would pay to Cyprus, ”accepting such an invitation is a matter of digestion.”

Denktas said the opposition parties would not accept such kind of intentional political invitation if they attribute importance to themselves and respect to their own republic and state.”
