Kurdish Language School Opens in Batman

The National Education Ministry is making Kurdish language instruction available after the issue was repeatedly broached in the European Union (EU) Progress Report on Turkey. After granting permission for a Kurdish language school to be established in Sanliurfa for the first time, the Private Education Foundations General Directorate then approved a second one to be opened in Batman two days ago. The newly-opened institution is called the Batman Private Kurdish Language School.

Private Education Foundations General Director Oner Guney said the Ministry never prevented the opening Kurdish schools and that approval, with full documentation, was given immediately. "I received the documents from the school in Batman, approved them in two hours and sent the statements via fax on the same day," Guney said.
