Karamanlis: Aegean Solution not Required for Turkey’s EU Bid

Karamanlis emphasized at a press conference in Selonika (Salonika), Greece, that a European Turkey would benefit everyone. He reminded that there were no strong arguments against Turkey’s EU membership.

The Greek prime minister took time to comment on the upcoming EU Commission Progress Report on Turkey. "I assume that Erdogan’s government undertook serious efforts for it," he said.

Continued Karamanlis, "Do we need a Turkey that protects the European perspective or not? To be honest, I prefer such a Turkey. Turkey will continue in this direction, performing internal reforms and at the same time embracing moods that overlap with the European soul in international relationships."
