Izmir: Claudia Roth in Turkey

"We want to see Turkey in the EU, but firstly, human rights and some minotary rights should be performed, " Roth said in the meeting organized by German Foreign Ministry and its Embassy to Turkey at Balcova Princess Hotel in the western city of Izmir.
Responding questions of reporters, Roth said, "as a friend of Turkey, I am speaking in the name of Fedaral Goverment and give support for Turkey in its EU bid."
German Ambassador Wolf Ruthart Born also participated in the meeting, which will end in 3 days.
"There is no abstacle in the way of cultural, geographical and religion. EU is not a Christian Club. The actual goals are freedom for belief and universality of human rights. If Turkey becomes member of EU, Europe will be richer."
Roth, touching on Turkey’s decision to send soldiers into Iraq, completed his words, "I cannot say wrong about a decision taken by most of the parliament. But, I am not satisfied with this decision. Because the parliament approved the permission though Turkish community is oppenent to sending soldiers into Iraq. I hope the wrong policies of USA and Britain won’t harm Turkey."
