Israel Released ‘Nuclear Spy’ Vanunu
Police said that there would be no charges brought against Vanunu, who was taken into custody for questioning. Vanunu disclosed that he had admitted that although he knew his going to Bethlehem was banned by Israeli courts, he wanted to pray at the Milad Church. Vanunu served an 18 year jail sentence for leaking information about Israeli nuclear programs in 1986. He was released last April at the end of his sentence but still has restrictions on his freedom, with bans on travel abroad and to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Talking to journalists with the permission of Israel administration, he said that he was taken into custody one and a half months ago for failing to obey the rules imposed on him. In his first statement after his release he said that he had no more secrets to reveal and added that he wanted to settle in the US to begin a new life.
