Islamic Countries Embrace TRNC

A status upgrade within the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) is viewed as certain and will be the first step in this new solidarity.

In an event heralding the TRNC’s augmentation within the Islamic community, the OIC Secretary-General, Abdulvahid Belkeziz will visit the Island.

The positive atmosphere was further reinforced when Pakistan invited Serdar Denktas, the TRNC Foreign Minister, for the commencement of mutual talks.

Expectedly, Azerbaijan will shortly begin direct flights to Ercan Airport, in North Cyrpus.

Efforts to unite Cyprus – most recently during the referenda held on April 24 in Cyprus – were rejected by the Greeks.

Ankara, in response to this failure, sent the message, "Lift the unjust embargos against the TRNC, which showed, in the referenda, that it is for conciliation."

The Arab media sympathized with Turkish grievances and implored the Arab world to support Ankara in its plight to end the TRNC’s isolation.

The Saudi newspaper, "Riyadh," published an article that called for the end of embargoes against the TRNC and, later in the article, asked for its inclusion in the Islamic community.

"Why don’t we take these two brother countries to the Arab League as observers first and later as active members?" the article asked.

Document drafts for the TRNC’s upgrade within the OIC will be negotiated during the next OIC meeting to be held in Istanbul next month.

Arab diplomatic club members met with Turkish Foreign Minister, Abdullah Gul, and published additional articles supporting TRNC status and Turk-Arab relations.
