Iraq’s Al Obeid tribe officials arrive in Ankara

ANKARA – While Turkey waits for the evaluation reports of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies sent to Iraq regarding Turkish deployment in the region, it also holds contacts with the Iraqi officials.

In this scope, Iraq’s Al Obeid tribe officials arrived in Turkey today in order to meet with the Foreign Ministry officials and the deputy Undersecretary Ambassador Ali Tuygan in Ankara regarding Turkey sending troops to Iraq.
Meanwhile, seven officials from the temporary government in Iraq are expected to arrive in Turkey in the second week of September.

Meanwhile, a message has been sent to Mahmut Osman, who is a member of the temporary government council and reported to have relation with the terrorist organisation Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Osman is officially asked not to visit Ankara.

Osman had talked with the US government about his unease regarding his relation with the PKK.

Songul Cabuk, Turkmen member of the council in Iraq, would also arrive in Turkey a week later. Cabuk is expected to depart for US to meet with President George W. Bush.

US’s Europe Forces Command James Jones will visit Turkey on September 3.
