Iraq summit to convene in Foreign Ministry tomorrow

Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will chair the meeting. The meeting is also considered as a preparatory meeting for the foreign ministers of countries neighboring Iraq that is expected to take place in Damascus at the weekend.

Sources said the meeting in Damascus will not be a "persuasion" meeting regarding dispatch of Turkish soldiers to Iraq, stressing that they would discuss what could be done to restore stability in Iraq.

Foreign Ministers of countries which are neighbors of Iraq will search for a reply to the question "how can we rescue Iraq?"

Meanwhile, it was reported that Ankara was still waiting for a reply from Washington on dispatch of Turkish soldiers to Iraq.

Stressing that "silent process" continued, sources said, "we are waiting and we will continue to wait."

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal and Middle East Department officials met this morning with Deputy Chief of General Staff Ilker Basbug and discussed Iraq.
