Iraq: At least 45 killed, 150 wounded in car bomb blast

The explosion occurred as hundreds of civilians had flocked to the police station at Iskandariya, 45 kilometres (30 miles) from Baghdad, to fill in applications to join the police force. The blast went off at 9:30 (0630 GMT). Many of those wounded were evacuated to hospitals in Baghdad, and some flown by helicopter to a hospital for Polish troops stationed near the town because Iskandariya’s hospital lacked the capacity. The death toll IS expected to rise because there are "many in serious or critical condition". The police station stands on the main road linking Iskandariya to Baghdad. US troops sealed off the area with Humvee all-terrain vehicles.
