Iran’s Khatemi to Visit Turkey in Two Months

Erdogan emphasized the continuity of the information exchange between Turkey and Iran. He said on Tuesday that the security forces of the two countries will discuss ways they can cooperate against the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist organization.

Recent assaults by branches of the PKK on Iranian security forces have reportedly swayed Iran’s determination towards joining the struggle against the PKK. Prior to his visit Erdogan told the official Iran news agency, IRNA, that cooperation between the two countries on the PKK issue is extremely important. "We expect the PKK to be labeled as a terrorist organization by Iran."

Meanwhile, Ankara reportedly invited Khatemi to visit Turkey. The Iranian President will visit some time in the next two months.

The Iranian press is paying close attention to the Turkish Prime Minister’s visit. Iran’s Reformist newspaper stresses the joint willpower to improve the relationships between the two countries in spite of American pressure. Keyhan International, a conservative Iranian daily, draws attention to the timing of the visit. The Iranian press hints that the two countries are using economic corridors to improve relationships.
