Iran visit crisis deepens
Ankara and Tehran are involved in a diplomatic spat leading to the cancellation of reciprocal visits to the two country’s capitals by the government leaders of Iran and Turkey.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was scheduled to visit Iran in the coming weeks. However, following Tehran’s refusal to recognise the outlawed separatist group KADEK, the successor of the PKK, on the list of organisations Iraq identifies as being involved in terrorism, the visit was shelved.
In response, Iranian President Mohamed Hatemi has also cancelled his planned visit to Ankara.
ON Thursday, Tehran sent Ankara the message that Hatemi would not pay a visit to Ankara before Erdoan had visited Iran.
