Iran to be Discussed, too

Besides developed countries, Iraq’s neighbors and important leading world NGOs will take part in the two-day meeting that will start on Tuesday. It is expected that Iran’s nuclear program, which is the subject of US interest, would be discussed at the meeting, and a meeting of US Secretary of State Colin Powell and his Iranian counterpart Kemal Harrazi is on the agenda. Topics such as developments in Northern Iraq, the murder of Turkish drivers, rights for Turkmen and the future of Iraq are to be discussed at a meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul and Powell.

According to experts, the US will be discussing solutions for three important topics behind the scenes at the summit: Neighbors’ control of borders to prevent the flow of weapons and fighters to Iraq; organizations of elections planned for January and the erasing of the country’s nearly $125 billion debt. Besides G-8 members US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan and Russia, Iraq’s neighbors Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria and host country Egypt, and European Union (EU) term president the Netherlands, China and Iraqi foreign ministers will participate in the meeting.
