Iran Entrenches Its Nuclear Programme
The announcement declared that Iran was determined to continue its peaceful nuclear programmes under the guidelines of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iran is additionally prepared to take precautions, and provide guarantees to the international community that it does not seek nuclear weapons by sustaining the suspension of its uranium enrichment programme.
Iran said that if its nuclear programmes, which are peaceful, receive no objection, then it could adopt a compliance with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Should the IAEA provide their compliance, Iran would furnish additional gaurantees that its nuclear programme was solely meant for peaceful purposes. Meanwhile, at a G-8 conference in New York City, the UK , Germany, and France, decided on a proposal that would impose sanctions on Iran if they did not desist with their nuclear development.
At an unofficial gathering, EU foreign ministers expressed their consternation over Iran’s lack of cooperation with the UN. After Holland called on Iran to obey the demands of the IAEA, Iran resisted, and repeated that their programme was for peaceful purposes.
While in France, the Iranian Finance Minister Safdar Hosseini said of Iran’s nuclear aspirations, " We need nuclear energy for our economic development. This will never be used for military purposes". Any agreement with the UN should secure his country’s legal rights while providing guarantees for the international community, Hosseini added. France declared that unless Iran becomes more transparent it will end its cooperation.
