‘Impressive’ audience attend concert by choir for Turkey/Syria earthquake appeal

The Sirenian Singers’ performance at St Giles’ Parish Church on Saturday, March 25 was opened with Handel’s Zadok the Priest, followed by Fauré’s Requiem, joined by Samuel Snowden and Jill Bent.

Samuel is a former member of Sirenians and a Baritone who has recently graduated with Distinction in his Master of Music studies from the Royal Northern College of Music.

As a soloist, Samuel regularly performs in venues across Wales and the North West of England. Samuel performed at the World Premier of Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus Colores at Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

Jill Bent is one of the original members of Sirenians, and before that was a member of the renowned St David’s School girls’ choir founded by Jean Stanley Jones. Jill has been a regular soloist for the choir for many years and her interpretation of Pie Jesu was one of the many highlights of the concert.

Following the interval, the choir performed a mixture of choral music by various composers including, Pietro Mascagni, Antonio Lotti, Karl Jenkins, Eric Whitacre and John Rutter to name but a few.
