Ihsanoglu will make a change in OIC
Indeed, the election of Ihsanoglu itself was a change for the OIC. The election of Ihsanoglu last June to the top post of the OIC, the sole organization bringing together the entire Muslim world, and the second largest international organization after the United Nations, was the scene of the first-ever democratic election process in the grouping. Distinguished candidates from other countries with Islamic populations presented their programs and delegates from the 57-member countries elected the new secretary-general. That is one of the reasons that we believe having Ihsanoglu in the top OIC post will make a change both within the group, its functioning, its place in international politics as well as in helping to eradicate the growing Islamophobia in the international arena.
As the sole organization bringing together the entire Islamic world, the OIC has great potential and the capability to deal with the problems faced by the Islamic world. Before his election to the prestigious office and since then Ihsanoglu has been stressing his intention to increase the synergy of the OIC, hiring high-quality personnel and converting the organization into an effective tool to boost solidarity and cohesion among its 57-members and observer members.
We are confident that Ihsanoglu, who has been not only a successful Turkish academic but also a person who has devoted almost 25-years of his life to the OIC, will help the 57-member organization become a platform where not only rhetoric is heard, but problems of the Islamic societies discussed in length, common policies are developed to fend off mutual threats the Islamic communities are facing and effective cooperation means and methods are brought to life that will convert the OIC into a body capable of converting its existing great potentials into action.
As close witness to the outstanding performance of Ihsanoglu at various postings within the OIC, we are confident that he will make a change.
