‘I pray for Allah’s mercy for our brothers’: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan extends condolences to ‘brotherly people of Pakistan’
Turkey calls for restraint, backs Pakistan’s stance
During the phone call, Erdogan conveyed solidarity with Pakistan and supported Islamabad’s handling of the situation.
The Turkish presidency said, “Erdogan stated that Turkey was ready to do what it can to prevent the tensions from escalating, and that his diplomatic contacts in that regard would continue.”
Erdogan also said he found “appropriate” Pakistan’s call for an investigation into the April 22 militant attack in Indian Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. India has blamed Pakistan for the incident, an allegation Pakistan denies.
Turkey had earlier condemned India’s missile strikes. The Turkish Foreign Ministry warned that such military actions risk escalating into “an all-out war”.
Erdogan expresses concern over civilian deaths
Later on Wednesday, Erdogan posted on social media, raising concern about civilian casualties.
He said, “We are concerned that the tension between Pakistan and India could escalate into open conflict with missile attacks that have resulted in the martyrdom of numerous civilians.”
“I pray for Allah’s mercy for our brothers who lost their lives in the attacks, and I once again extend my condolences to the brotherly people and state of Pakistan,” he added.
He also reiterated support for an international probe into the militant attack. “We find Pakistan’s proposal to conduct an international investigation regarding the heinous terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir to be valuable.”
Erdogan ended his message by stating, “As Türkiye, despite those who pour fuel on the fire, we are making every effort to reduce tensions and open channels of dialogue before events reach an irreversible point.”
India neutralises Pakistan Attack, destroys Pak’s air defence
Two weeks after the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The following night, Indian forces neutralised Pakistan’s attempt to strike military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other areas using missiles and drones. In response, the defence ministry said India remains “fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people.”
