Gul Meets with Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia

Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met with Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia on Monday.

During the meeting, Gul presented Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s letter to Crown Prince Abdullah on Turkey’s expectations about the Cyprus issue.

The Cyprus issue was high on agenda of the meeting between Gul and Crown Prince Abdullah.

Gul conveyed Turkey’s expectations about lifting of embargoes imposed on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and upgrading TRNC’s status at the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

Meanwhile, Crown Prince Abdullah extended their support to Turkey’s initiatives.

Referring to the issue of Iraq, Crown Prince Abdullah said that they appreciated Turkey’s balanced policy about the Middle East.

The bilateral relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia were also taken up at the meeting. Highlighting importance of Turkey in the region, Crown Prince Abdullah stressed that they attributed great importance to friendly relations with Turkey.

Gul expressed Turkey’s profound sorrow over the recent attacks in Saudi Arabia.

Referring to commercial and economic relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Gul and Crown Prince Abdullah extended their support to decisions taken at the Turkey-Saudi Arabia Joint Economic Commission meeting.

The issue of highway transportation between Turkey and Saudi Arabia was also brought onto agenda of the meeting.

Meanwhile, preparatory efforts have ended for the agreement envisaging co-operation between Turkey and Saudi Arabia in security and in fight against illicit drug trafficking. Turkish Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu will pay a visit to Saudi Arabia to sign the agreement.
