Greek Press: Greek Side to Re-Apply The Hague Tactic

The Greek newspaper, Politis, reports that the Greek-Cypriot side will determine a stance according to the Turkish side and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas’s attitude in particular.

The Greek tactic was described in this way: The Greeks will first put forward the concerns about the process set forward by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. Within this framework, if the other party comes with its known point of views, then they will suggest that there is not enough time left to go on with the negotiations. The Greek side will stress on the gaps and contradictions in the Plan. In case Annan insists on the conditions, Papadopoulos seems to be determined to participate in the process with the condition that the other party will do so equally.

It is also reported that Greece and the Greek-Cypriot side bank on what the European Union’s (EU) role would be in the negotiations. Filelephteros newspaper reported that, due to the Cyprus issue, an internal commotion is going on in Turkey. And the Alithia newspaper wrote that the U.S. says to ‘no’ to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and refuses his proposal to make any changes to the Annan plan.
