Greek Cyprus not to veto Turkey’s EU membership

NICOSIA (AA) – Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos said today that a Turkey that obeying the European Union rules and acting like a EU country wouldn’t be harmfull for Greek Cyprus on the contrary it would be beneficial for themselves.

He stated that when they took part in the EU, Greek Cyprus wouldn’t veto Turkey’s EU membership.

Papadopoulos stressed, "Veto issue big’s subject. When the issue come to agenda, we will face it but my logic says that veto will be a silly decision."

He criticized Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas’ attitude and said that while Denktas was in charge, a resolution haven’t seemed possible.

Greek Cyprus will be EU member at the end of 2004.
