Greek Cypriot leader threatens to veto Turkey’s EU bid

It was obligatory for Turkey to recognise the Greek Cypriot administration, Papadopulos said. If this was not done, the Greek Cypriot leader said that his government would veto any proposal to open membership talks with Turkey when the EU leaders met on 17 December.
Also speaking on Friday, Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Yorgo Yakavu called on Turkey to set a date by which it would withdraw the Turkish soldiers and Turkish residents from the island.
