Global news agencies convene in Rome for 39th MINDS International conference

ROME

The 39th Conference and Extraordinary General Assembly of MINDS International, the Global Alliance of Mobile News and Data Service Agencies, was held in the Italian capital of Rome on Thursday, with the participation of Anadolu CEO Serdar Karagoz.

Hosted by Italy’s ANSA news agency, the event was also attended by Anadolu’s Marketing and Business Development Director Erman Yuksel.

Senior executives from news agencies’ boards and editorial, strategy, technology, and sales departments took part in the conference, where participants discussed the future of the media industry.

Under the theme “Trusting the News of the Future: Independence, Innovation, Growth,” the conference featured a presentation by Yuksel titled “Breaking the Algorithmic Monolith: How News Agencies Challenge Digital Media Hegemony through NSosyal.”

In his presentation, Yuksel highlighted that while digital media platforms have become the main tools for information sharing, they often impose restrictions, lack transparency, and contribute to the spread of disinformation.

He underlined the growing need for independent information-sharing platforms such as NSosyal, an independent social media initiative developed by Anadolu, which promotes reliable communication and media freedom.

“By supporting independent networks like NSosyal, we can safeguard honesty and restore trust in journalism,” Yuksel said.

Following the conference, MINDS International also held its Extraordinary General Assembly, attended by Karagoz.

Established as an association in September 2007 after a project funded by the EU, MINDS International is a non-profit organization that aims to support global media digitalization and foster innovative media services for the public.

Anadolu Agency, Reuters, the German Press Agency (DPA), The Associated Press (AP), Kyodo News, Agence France-Presse (AFP), ANSA, Belga, EFE, and The Canadian Press (CP) are among MINDS International’s member news agencies.
