Germany in favor of Turkey’s EU accession

German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said that they favor the start of accession talks with Turkey if it succeeds in fulfilling requirements before the end of 2004.

Fischer said, in an interview with Financial Times Deutschland, on Thursday, "The issue of whether Turkey will succeed in accessing the EU is more important for our security than any military armament program. Because, the future of the West will be determined in the Middle East in coming years."
