Germany Demands 5,000 Workers Yearly

Turkey, with an official unemployment figure of 2.5 million, is not filling the 5,000-worker quota offered by Germany. Turkey sent only 2,085 workers last year with a quota of 5,520, which was the same figure as in 2003. Germany that has started to signal that they could reduce the quota due to the abuse of some companies. Social security expert Ali Tezel remarked yesterday regarding the issue that the Turkish business sector did not notice the importance of the issue: "An important opportunity for the unemployed is wasted. The government and the private sector should cooperate on this topic." Another source has added a new dimension to the issue: "There are still companies which are not aware of such a contract. If it was presented properly, the yearly limits would have been filled and overflowed." According to the same source, some companies prefer to obtain the necessary staff from Germany instead of struggling with the bureaucratic process.
