General Staff reacts to law on religous schools

Stating that the army believes in the need to recover the education system in Turkey, General Basbug said that the studies have to be carried out in harmony with all institutions.

“However, the submission of the draft law to the Parliament reduced hopes for deal on the issue. We have serious doubts about the harmonization of the mentioned draft law with the Constitution. While the education system has several problems, our expectations is to handle the prior problems as a whole.”

“Some 2,000 students graduated from the religious schools continue their education in the field of their education. In addition, the number of the students graduating from the religious schools is 25,000,” Basbug said adding, “When you investigate the aim of the amendment in the 32nd article of the National Education Basic Law, you see that the change gives opportunity to the religous school graduates to continue their education in the same field.”
