Gen. Jones Is Coming to Turkey

Gen. Jones, U.S. Allied Forces Commander in Europe and NATO European Forces Commander, will meet Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok. The American commander is expected to cal on Turkey to serve in the west and north of Baghdad, comprising Tikrit, Felluce, Bakuba, and Diyala regions, where there are security problems. The general aspects of such a decision will be tackled in the meting rather than technical details.

Gen. Jones is expected to meet Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul after contacting Gen. Ozkok. Then he will proceed to Istanbul and meet Full General Yasar Buyukanit, Commander of the First Army.

The technical mission, which will come to turkey together with Gen. Jones, will stay in Turkey after Jones leaves, to continue the technical talks. Moreover, the mission composed of the officials from the General Staff, MIT, and Foreign Ministry, which is in Iraq to collect information, will return to Turkey on September 5.
