France, Germany back Turkey on EU membership talk

Schroeder noted that the EU Summit should give Turkey an opportunity for negotiation since EU has submitted the evaluation report on talks of Turkey’s EU membership.

Chirac said France welcomed Turkey’s entry into the EU but indicated this would not be achieved without Turkey’s persistent efforts.
