‘Foreign Forces Responsible for Darfur Crisis’
Muhyeddin explained to Cihan that some foreign forces are eager to lay claim to Darfur’s oil and mineral wealth, as well as the region’s agricultural and livestock potential. He indicates that the foreign forces operating in the region do not want stability in Sudan.
Muhyeddin blames the foreign press for neglecting Darfur until the crisis got out of hand, thus delaying a possible solution to the long running conflict. He also points out that the press did not show adequate attention to the Sudanese government’s struggle against illegal organizations.
Muhyeddin told Cihan about the background of the problems in Darfur. He emphasized that the weapons coming from Chad and the famine and drought experienced in Darfur after 1983 all played a role in the region’s growing problems.
"Despite the attacks of resisters who found support in the foreign press, the Sudanese government continued its efforts to find peaceful solutions for the problem," said Muhyeddin.
Muhyeddin added that the government has been making progress in Darfur recently. He stressed that it was disingenuous of the foreign press to paint the resisters as Arabic tribes and the clashes as a fight between Arabic and African tribes. He reminded that there have been very bloody clashes in Sudan in the past.
"The government solved the problem in the south. It will solve the Darfur problem as well by New Years; however, the foreign forces will then strive to reveal the problem in the east," said Muhyeddin.
