FM Gul, returns from Saudi Arabia to Turkey
ANKARA (AA) – Gul returned from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Turkey and told reporters that his visit to Saudi Arabia was beneficial and satisfactory. He stated that Cyprus, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Iraq and Palestine issues were discussed during his talks.
Stating that Saudi Arabia faced terrorist acts recently, Gul said that Turkey, as a country which had experiences on fight against terrorism, shared sufferings of Saudi Arabia. He added that the two countries would sign an agreement on cooperation in fight against terrorism soon.
Gul said that he informed Saudi officials about Cyprus issue and noted that Saudi officials would extend support on this issue. "They expressed their both political and economic support on this issue. They also support the issue under OIC," he noted.
Gul said that the center of OIC was in Saudi Arabia and that’s why this country had a special importance in the organization, stating that’s why Saudi Arabia’s support had a special importance and meaning.
Stating that Saudi Arabia and Turkey had similar concerns especially over Iraq issue, he said that Saudi officials and they expressed concerns mutually during his talks.
Replying to a question, Gul said that they were satisfied with Saudi Arabia’s approach to Turkey’s candidacy for post of OIC secretary general.
When he reminded of some news stories which said that there were some activities to spoil demographical structure in Mosul and Kirkuk, he said, "we are carrying out a study on Kirkuk. We are monitoring developments. Turkey’s reaction to conscious acts which aim to create de facto situation there will be clear. Playing games on Kirkuk is dangerous."
Gul recalled that Turkey earlier expressed many times its view that Iraqi sources belonged to Iraqi people.
