FM Gul receives US ambassador

“United States is expecting contribution of Turkey on Iraq issue,” Edelman said in the meeting in which recent developments in Iraq and Turkey’s sending soldiers to the region were taken up.
By expressing his pleasure with appointment of a person to Ankara from the team of US Vice President Dick Cheney, Abdullah Gul informed Edelman regarding the process in Ankara and said that evaluations regarding the issue were continuing.
Meanwhile, representatives of Obeid tribe –one of the largest Arabian tribes of Iraq– held meetings with Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Ali Tuygan an FM Abdullah Gul.
Releasing a statement after the meetings, a tribe spokesman said that the meetings were positive and they took up the issue of sending Turkish soldiers to Iraq.
The tribe, which is in alliance with ITC, is uneasy about the activities of Kurdish people in the region. Obeid tribe with its 750 members is known as one of the largest Sunni Arabian tribes of Iraq.
