Fire breaks out in Modern Bazaar in Ankara
ANKARA (AA) – Fire broke out in Modern Bazaar in Ankara on Wednesday. It is claimed that the fire started in a shop, selling electricity equipment, due to a generator which became operational after an electricity cut.
Eye witnesses told A.A correspondent that the fire broke out in the basement of Modern Bazaar around 08.00 local time.
Flames spread around the bazaar where flammable, explosive and volatile substances are sold.
There were not many tradesmen and customers in the bazaar at it was early in the morning.
Several people, who were affected by the smoke, were immediately hospitalized.
All the streets around the bazaar were closed to traffic as a measure.
Municipality Fire Brigade Director Faruk Kurutuz said efforts were underway to extinguish the fire, yet stated that it would be difficult as there were flammable, explosive and volatile substances.
