Ferrari’s Sainz takes pole position for Sunday’s British Grand Prix

ANKARA

Ferrari’s Spanish driver Carlos Sainz had the pole position on Saturday for the 2022 British Grand Prix slated for Sunday.

Sainz, 27, who took his first-ever pole, beat Red Bull Racing’s Dutch driver Max Verstappen in qualifying session, finishing with a minute and 40.983 seconds.

“Extremely happy! First pole, at Silverstone, in the wet! It was extremely tricky out there but a final good lap gave us pole. Weekend is not over, but I’m ready for tomorrow and we’ll fight for the win. Let’s race!,” Sainz said on Twitter.

Defending world champion Verstappen ended with 0.072 seconds, behind Sainz to start Sunday’s GP in the second spot.

Ferrari’s Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, came third.

The British Grand Prix, which is the Round 10 of the 2022 season, will start Sunday at 1400 GMT.

The competitors will drive at full throttle over 52 laps of the 5.891-kilometer (3.6-mile) Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.
