Extension in Loizidou Case Expires

Strasbourg, TURKEY, November 26, 2003 – The extension that the European Council granted to Turkey for complying with the verdict given by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the case of Titiana Loizidou has expired today.

The case has been the source of a crisis between the Council and Ankara and negotiations are continuing. In the long-running dispute, the ECHR had ruled in favour of Loizidou and ordered Turkey to pay damages for her lost property in Northern Cyprus.
