EU’s Verheugen: It Should Be a Joke

Verheugen has 4 worries:

– Adultery
– Return to villages
– Cyprus
– Systematic violence.

The European Commissioner said that a punishment to adultery would be a historical joke and that there were serious reactions to this issue in Europe.

Verheugen, who attended the Manset (Headline) program in CNN Turk, made clear warnings to the government with respect to the adultery regulation.

The European Commissioner said that this could be misunderstood in Europe that Turkey was making concessions to the Islamic tendencies. He added that he forwarded his worries exactly to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.

Meanwhile, PM Erdogan instructed his aides to explain the reasons of inserting adultery to the law, to their grass roots. AKP is resolved to launch the motion, during the 14 September meeting of the general assembly of Parliament.
