EU to transfer 900,000 euros to Turkish NGOs

The tenth of "Training Seminars to Develop Capacity of Non-Governmental Organizations" was held on Saturday.

Project Coordinator of Civil Society Development Program Sunay Demircan said that representatives of NGOs which were active in 11 provinces would be given certificate after seminars by European Commission.

Demircan said that the Program was formed by European Commission and it was implemented with the financial support of Commission to increase initiatives of citizens within Turkey’s full membership target to EU, to develop capacities of NGOs and to encourage joint activities both in Turkey and abroad.

EU reserved a budget of 1 billion 50 thousand Euros for 2004 for development of NGOs and 900 thousand Euros of this amount will be transferred to Turkish NGOs. The NGOs which present realistic projects to the program will be given at least 50 thousand Euros each and if the project is not appropriate, the money will be given back to EU.
