EU talks to prompt cabinet reshuffle
A report prepared by the State Planning Department (DTP) has suggested that the Turkish delegation to conduct the negotiations with the EU be chaired by Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
However, the report also proposed that Ali Babacan, currently the state minister responsible for the economy, act as the chief negotiator in the talks.
If this proposal is adopted by the government, it is expected that there could be a cabinet reshuffle, with it suggested that there could also be some restructuring of responsibilities in the economy portfolios.
Following a meeting of the cabinet Tuesday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters that any potential cabinet reshuffle would have to wait.
“We will do it when the time comes,” the Prime Minister said after he attended the 2005 budget talks in the parliament.
