EU Comes for the Money it Grants

In a written statement issued yesterday, the commission announced that Schreyer would meet with ministers and high-ranking officials as well as the Government Accounting Bureau in Ankara. The statement, noting that Turkey’s pre-membership strategy would be taken up in detail during the meetings, also announced that Schreyer would meet with some civilian organizations.

According to the agreed-upon fiscal plan, the EU will grant Turkey 250 million euros in 2004, 300 million euros in 2005 and 500 million euros in 2006. Financial grants to Turkey will be conducted within the scope of the Seventh Fiscal Plan, as in Bulgaria and Romania.
