Edelman: US expects Turkish help in Iraq

Edelman and Gul also discussed the matter of Turkey sending troops to Iraq. Edelman told Gul that US expected Turkish assistance in Iraq, while Gul told the new US ambassador that relevant authorities were still discussing the issue.

Bilateral relations, Iraq, Cyprus, Middle East and United States Human trafficking report were discussed during the meeting. Turkey wants to be taken out of the third group of countries in the report.

Edelman, after presenting his credentials to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer yesterday made his first official visit to FM Gul.

Edelman, speaking after a 50-minute meeting with Gul, said that it was a very useful meeting and that he was looking forward to working with Gul in the future.
