Eczacibasi: Medical Sales Potential in Iraq Is $2 Bln

Responding to a journalist’s question prior to a board meeting regarding Turkey’s capabilities in Iraq and whether or not there would be any cooperation with foreign partners, Eczacibasi said there might be some strategic cooperation but added that they weren’t proceeding with a partner at the moment.

Eczacibasi said that Turkey had conducted a good deal of trade with Iraq in the past and that medical sector exports prior to the Gulf War had totaled approximately $115 million. Eczacibasi further pointed out that Iraq’s share of exports had increased to 40 percent during that period. "Good relations predominated during that entire time. The Iraqis know our medical sector, and they know Eczacibasi quite well, too. We view the coming period positively on behalf of Iraq."
