Early Election Call Pushes Sharon’s Guard Down

After coming to blows with his Likud Party, Israeli Prime Minster Ariel Sharon now finds himself having to face the threat of early elections alone.

Opposition leader Shimon Peres of the Labor Party called for early elections after Likud rejected Sharon’s suggestion to form a coalition government with the Labor Party. Peres’ move has cornered Sharon.
