DP convenes to asses CTP proposal to form coalition govt
No statement was issued after the meeting.
Speaking before the meeting, DP leader Serdar Denktas said that they would give their response to CTP on Wednesday at the latest.
Stressing that the issue of negotiator was not an issue of discussion for DP, Denktas said that the issue ended by the result of the elections. Denktas said that TRNC President carried out the talks together with the government, but the government didn’t take a very effective role in the negotiations to date and it left the issue to Foreign Minister. Denktas said "we will assess whether there is need for a more effective role of the government," adding nobody could come and discuss with them the issue of TRNC President Denktas’s giving up the task of negotiator and bringing CTP leader Talat instead of him.
Serdar Denktas said that he would meet with TRNC President Rauf Denktas and UBP leader Dervis Eroglu on Tuesday morning.
Noting that DP didn’t have the aim of delaying the process of forming the government or gaining time, Denktas said that they would announce their decision on Tuesday evening or on Wednesday morning at the latest.
Denktas said he would also get in contact with the Turkish government on Tuesday.
"We have difficulties about Annan plan. We know what CTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat wants. No condition was put forward to us during our meeting with him," he said.
Serdar Denktas said that all issues including the government’s taking a more effective role in negotiations and the amendments to be demanded in Annan plan should be put on the table, adding "we must see first to what extent the plan prepared in Turkey meets our sensitivities."
