Developing Countries Offer Support for US in Iraq

Apart from the US and UK, countries offering to be included in the force of 9,200 soldiers under the leadership of Poland are Ukraine, Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Latonia, Lithuania, Estonia, Fiji, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and the Dominic Republic.

And, in an unprecedented act, Japan also agreed to send soldiers to Iraq, following intense public pressure earlier this month. Similarly, South Korea, one of the US’ most important allies in Far East, has offered to send troops. The Philippines the US’ strategic ally, with 5,000 soldiers committed to the war on terrorism, will also send troops to Iraq. Albania and Azerbaijan announced that they intented sending troops as but Azerbaijan deferred its decision.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member countries, Italy, Denmark and The Netherlands have also pledged support.
