Der Spiegel: Turks in Germany Become More Religious

TAM’s Director Faruk Sen emphasized that the number of Turks who regarded themselves as very religious increased to 20 percent, up from 8 percent. Sen attributed the main reason for this to the distanced attitudes of Germans towards Islam. He said that this development should not be considered as an increase in the radical Muslims, because the number of members in the religious institutions decreased. The research also showed that the number of Turks who wanted to return Turkey increased.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the German police carried out inspections of mosques and mosque foundations in Baden-Wurttemberg. A statement from the Regional Internal Ministry indicates that nearly 400 policemen inspected 18 mosques and mosque foundations.

The Internal Ministry pointed out that the inspections were made in order to locate suspected terrorists. A detailed explanation is expected at the beginning of the week about the operations in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Freiburg.
