Denktash Tells Weston blame yourselves and the Greeks

The TRNC President said he saw no benefit in having a meeting with Weston and hearing the same old stuff again, he decided his undersecretary Ergun Olgun receive Weston when he visits the island today and brief him on the views of the Turkish Cypriot Presidency regarding the latest developments on the island.

Denktash said rather than accusing himself of blocking a Cyprus settlement, Weston must read a 1989 decision of the Greek Cypriot National Council and see there why a settlement could not be reached on the island for the past four decades.

He said it was with the obsession of the international community in supporting the Greek Cypriot thesis and trying to patch up Turkish Cypriots as a minority to a Greek Cypriot state that a settlement on Cyprus could not be achieved.

"If the Cyprus problem could not be settled over the past 40 years it was because of Britain, the United States and others considering the murderer (archbishop, former Greek Cypriot leader) Makarios, the Milosevic of Cyprus, as the legitimate government of Cyprus," said Denktas.
