Denktash not satishfied with Greek side’s approach
"I, along with my friends, will try to resolve this issue to the end. In today’s talks, I asked for a reduction in the number of Greek Cypriots allowed to return to the north of the island under the UN peace scheme, a rapid resolution of property issues and a continuation of Turkey’s guarantorship of the island… Turkish Cypriots want to see a final accord on Cyprus become part of EU accession requirements. But reunification will also require a transition period to allow the weak Turkish Cypriot economy to catch up with the much more powerful economy of the Greeks in the south of the island. Their (Greek Cypriot) demands came as no suprise. They want to send settlers from mainland Turkey back and called for northern Cyprus to be given only a short transition period before having to meet all EU rules. The Cyprus question cannot be taken care of with such an attitude," Denktash said.
