Denktas: We want to reach an honorable agreement

Dr. Fazil Kucuk, the leader of Turkish Cypriot people’s fight for freedom, was commemorated on Thursday on the 20th anniversary of his demise.

TRNC President Denktas, Parliament Speaker Fatma Ekenoglu, Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat, Turkish Ambassador to the TRNC Hayati Guven, Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus Commander Gen. Isik Kosaner, Dr. Kucuk’s relatives and other officials attended the commemoration ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Denktas said, "Turkish Cypriot people will look to their future at a two-road intersection this year."

"The whole world ignores the state of Turkish Cypriot people. There is not any change in the Greek Cypriot side. The Greek Cypriot parliament, which adopted a law of annexation with Greece during the era of Dr. Kucuk, approved another law last month saying that Cyprus was a part of Greece. If the Greek Cypriot side wants to reach a peaceful agreement with us, it should abolish this law," he said.
