Denktas: Only Greek Cypriots joined the EU

President Rauf Denktas, who will be in the south eastern city of Gaziantep Wednesday to receive an honorary doctorate from the Gaziantep University, said the Greek Cypriots were hiding behind a false title by describing themselves as the representatives of Cyprus and had begun threatening Turkey.
Though the Greek Cypriot administration was describing itself as the Republic of Cyprus, it did not represent Turkish Cypriots, Denktas said. There was also the risk of the Greek Cypriots trying to block Turkey’s accession to the European Union, he said.
It was up to the international community keep its word on rewarding the Turkish Cypriots for their support of the United Nations brokered plan to reunify the two states on the island, which was not ratified by the Greek Cypriots in the April 24 referendum, the TRNC President said.
