Denktas: I am not aware of a secret deal between Turkey-US

LEFKOSA (AA) – Turkish Republic of Northern Cypriot President Rauf Denktas said today that he was not aware of any secret deal between Turkey and the US on Ercan airport.

On the issue, Denktas stated that if Turkey and the US had something secret, they wouldn’t inform himsefl, but as Ercan airport was not in use, the claims could be wrong.

For two days a daily newspaper was reporting that Turkey and the US agreed to use Ercan airport for a common action against Iraq before US-led operation on Baghdad. The report stated that following refusal of the propasal in March that allowing US troops in Turkey, the secret deal wasn’t applied.
