Denktas: Enosis Indirectly Realized for Half of Cyprus

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) President Rauf Denktas underlined that the only meaning of enosis in Greek and Cypriot literature was "the union of Cyprus and Greece" and said that the Greek prime minister had "explained the thoughts in his subconscious" with his words. Denktas added that the Greeks had in fact indirectly realized enosis for half the island through the mediation of the EU.

In a statement made in Lefkosa, Denktas noted that the treaties of 1960 prohibited enosis, division and indirect enosis. Also according to the treaties, Cyprus is not permitted to become a member of any international organization of which Turkey and Greece are not both members. Denktas said that the Greeks had been trying for years to abolish the rights of Turkey over Cyprus.
