Denktas: Both sides should find a point to satify them

LEFKOSA (AA) – President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Tuesday that both sides in Cyprus had to come to a point which would satisfy them.

"Greek Cypriots should now understand that the thing promised to them by their leaders can’t happen and if they happen, this will not solve the Cyprus issue, but it will only be the solution for Greek Cypriots. No body will accept it," said Denktas.

Denktas underlined the fact that the two states in Cyprus should found a state by giving something from their authorities.

Speaking during a meeting in which he received Guzelyurt Art Association delegation, President Denktas said that both sides had to come together at a point and that point was very simple.

"They can get no where by saying ‘there is only one people in Cyprus,’ because there are two states. There are two democracies, they can’t not achieve anything by saying there is only one democracy on the island. For them to say that ‘there is one state and one state will exist," the two states should give something from their authorities and create a state. A common hat has to be formed for the two states. When the existence of two sovereign nations is accepted, all the roads will open," said Denktas.

Denktas said that Greek Cypriot people saw some realities when they visited TRNC, adding that "the other side should accept the fact that there is a state, administration, nation in the North and they can live side by side with us and the two should respect each other’s existence, and administration. If this is the case, an agreement on the island is possible."

"Let’s leave the election discussions behind and claim ownership on our state and cause. Our cause is sacred, and it has become more sacred today, because we see what they want to take from us:they want to get our state, our territory, our home and they don’t accept our sovereignty," Denktas said.
